Replaced starter...now SRS light won't reset (90 740)

I used my impact wrench to remove the starter on 740. Apparantly the hammering of this tool set off the airbag light. Now the SRS light wont reset. Of course it is a bizarre way to have to clear a code on these cars. (ground a jumper to an input on the circuit board for a certain time)so maybe I am missing something. What would anyone suggest to check? Or is it going to have to go to the shop?
thanks in advance.

This is mentioned in the FAQ: any hammering under the car while power is connected to the SRS system may set off the airbag or cause a fault in the crash sensor. If removing all battery power for half an hour or so does not clear the code, you are in the market for a new/used crash sensor.
