check engine light 700 1992

Hello fellow swede machine operators!!! I am new to the board.I recently purchased a beautiful gold 92 740 wagon w only 77k on it. It has been running great but the check engine light came on last week. I took a look under the hood and noticed some belts were loose and a small amount of coolant leaking from the thermostat. I promptly tightened all of the belts and am planing on replacing the gasket causing the leak within the week.If someone could tell me though these problems would set off the light that would be great. Is possible something else would set these off?

Your check engine light has something to do with a sensor or EGR valve. Have you noticed a decrease in your gas mileage? Or have noticed any kind of hesitation or stumbling lately since the check engine light came on? Let me what you find.

Check engine or Service Engine? The Service engine light comes on for a few minutes every time you start the car, but then goes off. It will happen every 5K miles or something like that and just needs to be reset by pushin in that little black button in front of it with a penpoint and holding briefly. Because, of course, you are doing your oil changes and other maintenance without this reminder anyway.

If it is your check engine, you need to read your codes. That is done via a little black box that is under the hood, right in front of the driver's (North American)position. Look in the FAQ under features above for details on how to do this and most anything else you are likely to need to do. Your car has the Rex/Regina engine management system which is, in my humble opinion, the most reliable of the several that existed in the 740 series.

    Welcome aboard!
