Can a O.D. be put on a non ODm40? 140-160

Hi, I have a later J-type OD. unit attached to what I think is an M46 tranny.
Is there a way to bolt this on to my M40 trans.?
It shouod be possible, but is it more trouble than it is worth to do? It may be easier to just hunt down a M41., but I thought I'd ask.
Thanks,

If you've got a *really* nice cnc equipped machine shop, plenty of stock, and knowledge... maybe.

The output shaft of the transmission is different... among other things I expect. I'm not familiar with the M46....

But I don't think it will work

No, the output shaft on the M41 is totally different than on the M40. It is 3 or 4 inches (+-??) longer - and sticks into the middle of the OD unit. The M40 is much shorter.

Other than that, the rest of the M40/M41 internals are the same except for the higher fill plug location on the M41. Of course, some things changed in the common M40/41 parts set over the years. Some gears changed diameters, the layshaft diameter changed. I don't know what the odds are of being able to swap parts between any two random M40/41 transmissions is. The closer the year between the better, I guess. Check part numbers on both pieces before trying to swap!
