A bit of friendly advice about fuel system 'dryer'.... 120-130

....for those located in the “winter hemisphere”.

Use fuel system “dryer” now, with every fill-up, and until temperatures return to above freezing!

We recently had an unusual heat wave with rain and very high moisture conditions (ground fog) followed by temperature crash to seasonal (way below 0F) conditions here in southern New England, which reminded me: Those are the OPTIMAL conditions for getting condensed water in fuel tanks, from the one in your car to the one at the petrol station, both which are vented to the atmosphere!

What does fuel line dryer do? The mechanism by which alcohol fuel system dryers work is quite simple. Water, which cannot mix with fuel, and would normally stick around on the bottom of the tank and accumulate (causing rust!), IS able to mix with the methanol. It is (only) then able to mix with the fuel and be transported through the system, to be consumed (in small doses) along with the fuel (fuel system dryer DOES NOT make the water miraculously disappear!).

Cheers

A bit of friendly advice about fuel system 'dryer'....Try Ethanol Blends 120-130

For those living in the Farm Belt and able to use ethanol blended fuels, you won't need the dryer because the ethanol removes residual fuel system moisture. I have not had to use fuel system dryer since moving to Iowa, where fuel freeze was common prior to the advent of ethanol.

A bit of friendly advice about fuel system 'dryer'....Try Ethanol Blends

We live just below the Rust Belt and in the very buckle of the Bible Belt where MTBE is the emulsifier of choice - also about a 10 percent reduction in efficiency. Not much Heet on the shelves.

A bit of friendly advice about fuel system 'dryer'....Try Ethanol Blends

MTBE is NASTY, do a couple of web-searches. Try to get it outlawed.

The water is not removed with ethanol. As stated in the first post, it is emulsified into the fuel. Gas blends with any alchohol will eventually absorb enough water from the atmosphere (if vented) to equal (roughly) the alchohol content in the fuel (90/10 will absorb enough water to be nearly 82/9/9 with the last number being percent water).

Ja, no more puddles of water in the bottom of the tank but it is much more important to have fresh fuel!!!
