Hey, those are kilometers ... no biggie. Call us when you have 400,000 miles :-) 200

Hi. Congratulations! But your speedometer shows km/hr ... so that's only a little less than 250,000 miles :-)
Actually, I've never gotten rid of a Volvo I've owned with less than that (except for my first, a '73 164, but that was before I realized how long-lived they are) -- I usually try to exceed 300,000 miles on every one.
But again, it's still an achievement, so you should feel proud. And remember -- the next 100,000 km will be even more of an achievement :-).

I can hear the phone ringing now... 200

      What do I win?

Wow, that was actually kind of a long time ago... I'm now up to 440K miles...

I don't wish to diminish your (or anyone's) claim to high mileage but I am curious about one thing. Have you checked your odometer for accuracy?
I ask because of a recent post from another contributor who complained that the trip meter/odometer in his '80 model was registering more miles than the distance traveled. It prompted me to check my odometer against the mile markers on the highway. Guess what. I was having the same condition. About 1.2 'miles' recorded between the markers. That's with the correct diameter tires and the correct speedo cable driven gear. The speedometer is accurate. Just the odometer is fast.
I wonder if it's a common condition for cars of that vintage (late 70's early 80's) that's hiding in plain sight?

My speedometer isn't 100% accurate either, but I've done the math, and it's no more then 5% off I think.

So even if you take 5% away from my 440K showing on the odometer (5% being roughly 22K) I've still got 418K miles

Then again, who knows for sure?

There are a few things I do know for certain though. My dad (when it was his car) had a daily drive of about 140 miles for a good 7 or 8 years... We got the car with 97K showing on the odometer back in '87 or '88...

Add in a few 1500+ mile camping adventures (that the family took an awful lot of when I was young) and I think the 400K miles seem about right.

Since I took over the car, I had a couple of years where my daily drive was about 120 miles as well. I got the car with about 409K showing on the odometer.

You do. If you check the odometer against the mileposts. Once you know what's going on with that you can check the accuracy of the speedometer.

Nice to see ... hoping for the same for mine.

I see some of the folks here have your odometer reading in miles too.

What sort of oil maintenance routine do you use?

      congratulations 200

      Hello,

Regular maintenance includes an OE Volvo oil filter every 5,000 km with Wal-Mart 10w30. Nothing special.

I try to keep the parts as OE as possible...
