Door contact switches 700 1992

Changing these out seems to be very straightforward...however, does that rubber boot that fits over the switch have to be aligned a certain way for the switch to work consistently? A switch I just purchased new for the driver's side door has been wrecked a second time due to having to constantly nudge it or pull on it to be effective. I noticed that if I moved the way the rubber boot around the switch was mounted, the appropriate dome lights would come on. Also, are the 700/900 switches interchangable?

New switches do not come with rubber boots. You can rebuild the old switches, which invariably corrode inside from water ingress or at the ground point where the screw both secures and ground the switch. Clean them up, protect with silicone dielectric grease, and reinstall.

Did your switch come with a new rubber boot?

That it didn't. It was just the switch itself.

I was hoping you'd tell me you did, as I find the trouble to be more often the boot than the switch, and I haven't yet taken the time to bother a dealer parts person over what seems like trivia.

The boots shrink and get stiff, so the things (at least on my 240s) work so much better without the boots -- for a while. Until they get water inside.

Newer 240 types have a hole in the boot that mates with a button on the end of the switch. I scarf them from 92+ in the yard when I see them. Can't offer any specifics on the 700 switch - maybe it is the same, I don't know.

The one on the left looks like the switch that goes in the 740, down to the boot.

200 and 700 switches and boots (at least up to about 1990)are identical. Can't say about 900s.
