'Intermittent' Fuel Gauge 700

...well while looking for the answers to my ABS Light question in the FAQ's section... I decided to also check on my intemittent fuel gauge 'issue'... Seems that it likes to work when it wants to work...which is more often not working...at least accurately that is...

I read 'somewhere' that there may be an additive that could possibly "clean" something in the fuel tank which aid's in preventing this intermittent condition... Is this just a bunch of "hooey" or what...? If so...what are my options on fixing this minor irritation...other than what I'm doing now...which is resetting my tripmeter at each tank fill up... which, by the way, I'm getting 23- 24 mpg...not bad for a brick with >263K miles on it...!

In advance, thanks again for all of your insights... I appreciate it...!

    'Intermittent' Fuel Gauge 700
