new PNP S90-V90

I have changed PNP in my V90.
Together with drained ATF, what was completely unnecessary :(
I have understood that according to brick’s description of replacement, it is necessary to disconnect transmission fluid cooler pipe. It is not.
This is just hint for next ones.

One more:
Front exhaust nuts was in perfect condition, rear I had to cut out and put new ones.

Greetings

Hi Gregski,
Haven't seen post from you in a while, or haven't I been paying attention? Good to hear from you. Hope everyting is well with you. I really haven't recalled a lot of the PNPs being replaced on the latter S/V models. What kind of mileage was on the car when the PNP went south? Were many of the symptoms of failure the same as earlier models?

Normally I have nothing interesting to say it this foreign for me language ;)
Truth is, that nothing serious happened last time with my V...

I just installed last time some toys.
Bluetooth nokia hands free set or GPS on Pocket PC.

All others is OK.

Symptoms of failure are the same as earlier models. After cold night, when temperature goes under 0 oC, lamps start to flash... service program starts in AT. I have about 100K miles on it.

Greetings!

Good for you Gregski, You're the first person I've heard of that didn't have to remove the trans cooler line. I've heard of at least one other person that didn't have to move the exhaust pipe out of the way as well. That's great, I wish it was that way on our 95 and 98. No such luck.

I´ve just replaced my PNP-switch on my 95´ 960 but I don´t recognize any symptoms that you other guys had. No flashing arrows or progamme buttons. The car would just not start but after moving the shifter from P to L back and forth a couple of times the car started but showed no codes or any different behaviour than normal!! You´ll have to excuse my incorrect grammar! And even in my case the ATF-coolerline weasn´t removed. Just took it loose from the radiator and realeased the nut that holds it against the tranny (That angled thing) and that allowed the coolerline the bend enough for me to get to PNP-switch of. However i dismantled the exhaustpipe. But it may be different on US spec cars.

The PNP-switch removal manual from the 7-900 FAQ was a great help. I´m stunned over the knowledge on this forum!! It seems you "over there" handles your services by yourselfs a hole lot more than here in Sweden, but I also think that the 960 and S/V90 is more common in the US than here in Sweden. You guys are my garagegurus!!! :)

Greetings from Sweden
//David

I think it is similar in your car... pipe is enough far away from AT.
To replace it without removal of exhaust pipe it is a little bit too tricky... ;)

Hi Gregski,

The shaft coming out of the transmission (and going thru the PNP sensor) was so long on both our 95 964 and our 98 S90 that the PNP sensor would could not physically come all the way off the shaft without removing the ATF cooler line. I spent a long time working on it and it pyhsically could not come off. I also asked my very sharp wife (who approaches problems like this VERY differently than I), to take a good long look at it in case I was missing something (which I often do). She couldn't get it off either.

Perhaps the shaft on the European AW30-43 is a little shorter so that you can slide it off the shaft and then there's enough room to slde it down between the end of the shaft and the ATF 90 degree fitting?

I'm glad it was easier for you.

Because he didn't change all the fluid, he only changed about 15% of it that was in the pan...

No, Sir..
If you disconnect upper pipe of ATF cooler in front than you can get much more..
It was about 45%, 4 from 9 litters of synthetic ATF.

Anyhow, that was completely unnecessary.

I was under the impression that you only dropped the pan, and didn't disconnect the transmission cooler lines. Heck, if you do that, you can drain 100% of the fluid. I did it a few weeks ago!
