122 heater hoses 120-130

I put a B20 into a 67 122s, and now I am hooking up the heater again. Problem is I didn't write down what hoses go where. Now you'd thing it be easy with the hose "memory" and such, but I'm not doing so well. The first time, The engine almost over heated. I think I might have it right now, but is there anyone with a definite answer? The line from the Water pump is currently going to the top inlet on the fire wall. The bottom outlet from the fire wall is goin to the top inlet on the heater core. the bottom outlet of the heater core is going to an inlet on the back of the block. Does this sound right? The car isn't over heating, but I doesn't seem to matter if I have the heat lever on cold or hot...it's just hot. Maybe I have a faulty valve...If I know the plumbing is right, but if it is, I'll tackle the rest with confidence.
Thanks for any help you might be able to give.

as the others said the plumbing shouldn't make that much difference. Also T-stats often are slow to open the first time after a long sit. Finally the valve for the cab heating often stops working and remains hot/open all the time. i have used a plumbing valve in the engine bay on occasion to fix this, you can also adapt any similar valve from a 240 or othere to work under the dash, you could also to try to repair you valve.

You might have a faulty valve. I'm not sure it makes a lot of difference
how it's piped as long as you have water flow through both the valve and
the core. I think from the water pump to the valve to the core is probably
the standard way. Is your thermostat opening? Sometimes thermostat opening
will be delayed if air is trapped in the top of the head. Won't open till
steam gets through and heats the thermostat enough to open it. Radiator should
stay cold for a while after starting then warm up suddenly when thermostat opens.

I will affirm George. The actual routing won't matter a whit to the engine or heater as long as the valve is in line with one of the heater outlets.

The heater will not cause the engine to overheat, no way. Even if completely non-functional (after all, who runs their heater in the summer, eh?). Overheating is a separate but related issue.
