Blower Fan (Manual C.C.) Resistor Pack Repair? 900 1991

Hey folks, my resister pack failed on me today. Does anyone know what the resistence (impedence, I suppose, if they're wirewounds) values are so I can repair the unit? Blower fan only works on position 5, and that's loud.

Thanks and happy New Year!

Fixed! Blower Fan (Manual C.C.) Resistor Pack Repair... 900 1991

    Happy New Year everyone!

Although I didn't receive any responses on rebuilding/repairing the blower motor resistor pack, I managed to do it! The pack of resistors needs to be replaced as a unit, but that wasn't the cause of the problem. The cause was the thermal protection fuse in series with the +12V into the resistor pack module. I bought a new one at Radio Shack, soldered it in (using a heat sink so as not to overheat the fuse and blow it during soldering), and presto, my fan works on all speeds.

For the thermal fuse to blow, the unit had to get really hot. The cause? severely oxidized connectors. I used trimmed nail files to remove the oxidation from the spade connectors on the back of the resistor pack module (they were black and green!), applied plenty of DeOxit, and finally some dielectric grease before reinstalling.

Steve Ringlee, if you see this, this might be a good candidate for the FAQ.

Thanks for the update! Thermal fuses are usually installed by crimping so you were on the right track using the heat sinks. You didn't mention where the resistor pack is located???

I didn't mention the location of the resistor pack since it's covered in the FAQ here on Brickboard. When sitting in the front passenger seat with the glove box removed and your knees together, the resister pack (or wiring harness) is located to the right of your right knee. There are three plugs going into it, and they can be tricky to remove (especially in the cold when plastic just LOOOVES to break). Two 7mm hex-head screws and it's out.
