When you slide the radio out enough to see the back side, look for a round black cable plugged into the "amp" connection with a round 6-pin plug. If you got one of those, you got at least one external amp. If you have more than 2 speaker, you may have an amp, depending on which radio head unit you have. some of the head units ran only two speakers ( dash, or front doors, usually), off the head unit, and any additional speaker pairs from eithr a 2-channel or a 4-channel amp.
If there's an external amp, you'll be disconnecting the amp cable from your old unit, and not re-connecting it ( assuming you are talking about substituting a non-Volvo head unit with an internal amp).
You'll have to locate the speaker wires and disconnect at least two sets of them from the amp;connect them to your aftermarket head unit.
See if you can get wiring diagrams for your car, so you can find the connections and rely on the wire colors and locations in wiring it up.
Also use the search function at the lower right of the page--somebody else may have posted the info you need.
