96 960 Gas smell from inside and outside car S90-V90

I have a 96 960 with 230,000 miles. I am getting a gas smell inside and outside the car. What could it be? Chris

The gas smell may come from the seal in the fuel tank. Remove the square metal plate in the trunk of the car under the carpet cover near the front (behind the back seat) If you smell gas when just lifting the plate, there is the problem

If the fuel rail leaks as dewfpo indicates, see 700/900 FAQ for fuel rail replacement instructions. Otherwise, JB Weld (epoxy) can be used for a temporary repair that will last a while. Generally, the leak can be seen only right after you start the engine. Check carefully. Check also the valve at the firewall end of the fuel rail.

Two things to check.

If it smells very strong in the engine compartment then check
the metal plug at the end of the fuel rail.

If you only smell it after fill ups or after going up/down steep hills, check the rubber fuel fill hose from the filler to the tank.

Both are weak links in this vehicle.

Merry Christmas

Could it be the O rings in the fuel rail? I don't see any leaks around the fuel rail. I did notice I had a small leak at the fuel filter, it was time to replace anyways so I put a new one in. It has no leaks at the filter anymore. BUT, I still have a smell, thats why I'm asking if it could be the o rings.
