removing paint from side rubber mouldings 120-130

Recently scored a set of rear side window rubber mouldings from an Amazon 2 door. They look pretty good, minimal cracking, but there is some white paint overspray on parts of the rubber. Any ideas on how to safely remove this white paint (don't know what type it is) without damaging the rubber? Thanks!

Chemical Warfare! 120-130

Damian;

I'd use Zip-Strip or some other commercial solvent type stripper. Since this will likely also attack the rubber if you leave it on there a long time, I'd only brush it on to small areas at a time and keep working it around (with a throw-away brush or q-tip) until you see it dissolving the paint. Once you get a feel for how long the process takes, it shouldn't take too long to clean up all painted surfaces...the trick is not to leave any solvent on the rubber when it has done its job, and a rubber protectant should be used on the freshly exposed surface.

Would I kid you?

A quality brand of odorless mineral spirits, let it soak for a minute then rub off with a cloth or nylon pad, followed by a treatment of rubber dressing ie Armorall type stuff.

Goof Off. You can get it in most hardware or paint stores.

I've used a single edged razor blade carefully scraping the paint.

Cheers,Jim
