pump voltage/ what is normal and is it variable?

I have a 1980 242 volvo. I was just wondering if the volvo has a voltage that is variable to the intank pump? . I put a new pump in and tested, and I get 5.4 to 5.11 volts. What is the normal range for the intank pump volts?

    I think they are all 12 volts. Sounds like a wiring problem to me.

      I am going to put a relay on it and some new wires. My pump psi is up and down. I am also not running the inline pump, could this also cause a problem with the volts?

        it should be 12v or above. the alternator will put out up to 14v.

        if no inline pump, what pump is in the tank? i hope it's more than the oe pump. good luck, chuck.

        You should have battery volts at the in-tank pump ie. 12V or more, any less indicates a wiring or relay problem or you are testing to a poor ground.

        If your engine does not use the high pressure main pump the fuel line should by-pass it so that there is no resistance to fuel flow.
