fuel delivery? 200 1979

car is very sluggish after a year layoff. fuel pump was bad before it quit running a couple of years ago, so putting a used one in got it started.

seems to be running on cyclinders 3 and 4 only (car dies if I pull the plug on either of these cylinders).

car remains running the same, if I pull either cylinder 1 or 2 plugs.

took off the number one fuel injector. cranked it, no gas.

then actually unscrewed the injector. cranked it. no gas there.

fuel distributor?

before i got the car half way running. I followed a suggestion on this board to load up the fule filter with injector cleaner, and run it.

which seemed to help a bit, as it seemed to get cylinder 3 running.

have a parts car handy, thinking about just swapping in the whole intake and fuel distributor from it.

of course, this car hasn't run in about a year either. it died from a thrown rod.

thanks in advance for any advice

I had a similar problem with an '81 245 I paid $200 and pulled home. It didn't run, wouldn't even try to start, had spark. So I pulled the #1 injector and cranked it. It sprayed fine. Put it back. Now it's trying to start, but only hitting on one cylinder. I pulled #2, draped it over the valve cover like I did the first one and it sprayed fine too. Put it back, Presto! Running on two cylinders. Pulled 3 and 4 injectors, they sprayed fine, put them back and the tning runs great. Go figure.

well, right, didn't actually force any fluid thru them, but just taking them out, and spraying with starter fluid, also sprayed some down the tube towards the fuel system seemed to work.

also put as much injector fluid as would stay, when screwing then injector back on (holding the injector straight up and down, lets you put a little bit of fluid at the top)

just worked, don't know why.

sure is nice to here it hum now. zips right up to redline (has a K-cam, and ipd exhuast).

one thing, seems like it takes a lot longer to start, when it hasn't run a bit.

maybe I should put my old fuel accumulator back on, but leave the new pump.

for right now, i don't want to mess with anything. after two years in the driveway...
