Cam update exhaust 200

Ok, thank all of you for your response and input. I will indeed KEEP THE CAT. But I will replace it with the version that is also a Magnaflow.. It meets the law requirements but has a lot less back pressure, I just hope its not too much flow and I lose some HP for the effort...I did a search on turbo board and read a lot about it but I still do not have any figures or specs on the 2 1/2 inch system using Magnaflow mufflers and cat.. Does anyone know what the optimum back pressure is? There are no head or intake mods, all stock except the V-15 cam and exhaust.. Should I modify the head or intake and what mods should I make if so? I have access to a machine shop and also have many air grinders and such in my garage.. Should I open the intake? Increase the valve diameter? Or Just go to the B234? And use a dual over head cam?/ Ok maybe not that extreme! Anyway I shall do a lot of searching on both boards to see what to do..Think the guys at turbo had the right idea, Sell the n/a 244 and get a late model turbo..HMMMMMM Money money money..Thaks all...Max

Max,

Here's a link to some pretty complete intake/exhaust information. You may find it interesting and informative.

Max, I have the 2 1/2 inch IPD sport exhaust and the Carsound performance CAT on my n/a '89 245 5-speed . I'm using a VX cam and the performance increase is quite noticable going from the OEM cat to the Carsound cat, very nice pick-up in the mid-high rpm range. I recommend it. I found that the system is very noisy with the full flowing rear turbo muffler, and that it needs just a little back pressure at the tailpipe, so I added a twin Monza resonator exhaust tip. This is a glass pack 2 x 2 1/2 inch tip that gives a nice throb as a performance motor should sound like, not the loud brash valve noise that is very apparent(ricer-like), especially on a wagon. It also gives a little better top end with the added back presssure on the n/a motor.
Don't do anything until you get the exhasut together, (plus K&N filter) you'll really like how the car behaves with the V-15 cam and the stock motor & 5-speed.
