what motor oil are you people out there using, and also list your mileage and your usage rate. Lets find out together just what these motors like.
Synthetic Mobile 1 in the tranny works the best of any I've used in the 200k on th car but what about the power plant? I'm running Mobile 5w30 and wondering if I should go a little stronger with the last weight. What will stay in these engines at high speeds?

I started out by using M1 10W30 as recomended by the owners manual. After a doing a lot of reading on bobistheoilguy.com (the 'heart of darkness' of all automotive forums)I switched to M1 0w40. Now im using M1 5W40 and im still trying to decide on the interval. Last change was at 5000 miles but I think im going to push the current fill to 7500 miles.

1998 V90, bought it at 51K and switched it to Mobil 1 10W-30 right away. It now has 72K. I change the oil every 3000 miles (approx) and I change the filter every other oil change (I always use Volvo filters). Burns very little between changes (maybe an 1/8th of a quart).

1998 S90 71,400 miles, purchased new, free dealer dino oil changes until 25,000 miles. Since then I ran M1 10W-30 (love it), last change I tried M1 0W-40 (a tad quieter than the M1 10W-30), I have 6 qts of M1 5W-40 on the shelf (just for the helluvit) for the next change. Consumption is a little over 1/2 qt. at the 7,500 mile OCI, so better than 10K miles per qt.

1995 964, 154,200 miles. Purchased used in 2000 with 109,000 on the clock. Previous owner changed dino oil at 5,000+ intervals. When we bought the car it had a Very loud valve tap(1 intake valve). Fist belt change was at 89K so I wonder if the belt snapped and belt the valve? Who knows? Oil consumption was 1 qt per 2,000 miles for our first 10K miles. I then switched over to M1 and run the same weights and intervals as the S90 above. Oil consumption is now 1 qt/ 8,000 miles (a very pleasant surpise I must say), I guess the M1 cleaned out the rings,lands, etc... Valve tap is still there but much less noticeable.

I only use Mann filters and change at 7,500 miles. I use the same weight oil year round, cars are parked in a garage at night, outside temps range from -15F to +100F.

Poolman glad to hear your car is running well, learned some valuable lessons from your posts.

I started using 15 50 Mobil synth Because of a pnp problem, i changed my driving habits a bit in that I dont use D at all and shift to L all the time. (I need to fix it ) but now that temps are lower in LA, need to change down to a lighter grade. What I noticed was the morning ticking sound went away.

I'm using 10W30 Mobil 1 and have to top up about every 2K miles. I drive a lot at 80 and do WOT accelerations up the ramp, (shifts occur at 6K RPM), to merge with the comuters in a hurry to get to ????

'96 965 with 16' wheels at 120K. Had '85 745 Turbo Diesel for 200K.

I bought the car at about 85K and now have about 115K and have run 0W40 Mobil 1 in it since I purchased it. I run up to 7500 miles on a oil change.

Synthetic for most of its life. Mobil1 for the last 2 changes. Dont really know if it uses more than a quart between changes which are usually every 6 months. Current mileage is 178K, we have had the car since 16k, 97 s90.

Mobil 1 5W-30, Volvo oil filter, oil and filter change every 5K miles, no oil added or needed between changes.

My 88244 M47 has ran Amsoil since 75K.

What weight amsoil are you running and what about your useage rate? Oh yeah how many miles on the car now?
