help...car still stalling out, thought we had it fixed 700 1987

Today my 87 740 4cy. stalled out again. We have replaced most all the relays(fuel related), just finished installing both fuel pumps and thought we had it fixed. It has run fine until today when I turned on the air cond. It started sputtering and spitting immediately. When I turned off the air it was better for a minute then started running badly again the rest of the way home. My husband says to order a distributor. We're thinking hall sensor. Any suggestions? We need input. Thanks in advance for everyone's help.
Dee

Believe it or not, check the coil. I had the same thing on my '90 740GLE, with the same list of jerk and replace repairs by the dealer until a local independent Volvo shop diagnosed it over the phone, changed it out, and all was copacetic.
