Yellow Peril - New development, rich again 140-160 1973

After checking things out again today (after a lot of rain yesterday)
we found resistances as they should be and continuity in the right places
at the right times but it is injecting WAY too much fuel. Might be the MAP
sensor (anybody got a good one to sell at a reasonable price??) and certainly
not the coolant temp sensor. BUT - we looked at the computer, which we had
put in nice and clean a couple days ago and found that it had a little WATER
in it!! Enough to drip about a teaspoon on the frame member beneath it when
we unhooked it. The inside of the car is DRY. It looks like it is coming in
through the cable!
We have another complete FI wiring harness that Ben has just spent an hour
identifying all the connectors, using the TREMENDOUS manual copy we recently
got that ONLY covers Volvo D-jet systems (all of them) and I think we found
some reasons why certain functions were nonfunctional (thermal timer, cold
start, etc). This harness looks a LOT better than the one that is in there,
although it does have a few cracks in the wire insulation. We note that the
gromment that goes through the firewall seems to form a funnel so if you were
driving really fast on a very wet road, water would splash into the funnel
and probably soak down the cable. To the best of our collective memory it has
not been run in standing water in recent years but we plan to seal between the
gromment and the wires with some kinda sealant on installation.

Your comments are eagerly sought! We do have another computer on the way and
are still searching for a GOOD Manifold Air Pressure Sensor.

Geoge. The manifold absolute pressure sensor measures vacuum fluctuations not air pressure as im sure you are aware. The connecting hose length and diameter is critical to the calibration of meter, if you have fitted new hose standard dimentions must be adhered to. The coolant temp sensor can be tested insitu and pass ok but if threads are corroded or have sealant on them it interferes with [earth, ground, chassis strap, bus]. These are piddling suggestions but you have covered most bases and a result would be most welcome to you. I dont savvy your Gringo, one day ill have to post in good old Aussie slang, dont think you would work it out. Jack.

Hey Jack,
What you post in is Gringo (more or less)
A Gringo is usually considered to be a North American, which may or may not
include Canadians, likewise may or may not include folks of nonwhite races.
The term is sometimes applied to English-speakers in general and more rarely
to nonhispanic folks who look like North Americans.

What you didn't understand is Silvius'
post which said (in Spanish) "one suffers, but one rejoices."
To which I responded, also in Spanish,
"Right now I am rejoicing in the growth of the grandson.
In 6 months he has learned a lot about mechanics.
Hope carries me along.....
In Romans 8 He tells us that 'We are more than conquerors....'
Greetings,"

I did replace the hose to the manifold air pressure sensor and it might
be an inch and a half shorter than it was but I can't imagine that that
would cause the problems we are seeing, to wit:
Sometimes it doesn't inject at all. When it does, it injects WAY too much.
We have replaced the FI wiring harness complete with a better-looking one.
I am thinking that the computer - cable connection may have a problem or two
and one of my next efforts will be to see what I can do to make the connector
bite the board a little tighter. I'm also going back to the manuals AGAIN.

I certainly hope that future FI systems are less complex and have fewer
expen$ive components.

¡ Ay, se sufre pero se goza! ¿Verdad?

Ahora mismo estoy gozando en el crecimiento del nieto.
En 6 meses ha aprendido mucho de la mecánica.
La esperanza me lleva....
En Romanos 8 nos dice que "somos más que vencedores...."
Saludos,
