Proper Power antanna maintance?

I have just replaced the power antanna moter and mast in my 88244DL that I obtained from a wreaked 86 244GL. My other mast was good as I had replaced it just over a year ago, but I thnk that I had messed up the moted, in that I lubed the thing with synthetic bike chain oil. It must have gummbed up the moter. I took it appart and could not get it clean enough to work properly. The replacemet works great. I would like to keep it this way to. Should I just leave it alone, or is there something that I shold do to it every time I wash the car or what.
Thanks and happy bricking.

    Proper Power antanna maintance?

Gumming it up is always a potential problem depending on the lube. I have had success with the impossible-to-find Mobil 1 Spray Lube. I've just tried synthetic bike chain lube, and I'll probably try wax-based bicycle chain lube. In any event, you want a lube that does not attract dirt or turn to gum. Don't overapply, or it runs down into the motor and gums up the takeup nylon tail.
