AW70 help please 200

Hi!,
Recently I replace my old aw71 to aw70, everything works well but I have a problem with the shift 1-2 and when I stop the car on "D" I have to press the accelerator with brake to shift 2-1. Today I change the oil and filter but still the problem. Looking for a solution I found about "Valve Body Service" is this my problem? Please I need an advice.

Thanks again,

Edwin

      Hello Edwin,
that's a good question--relist this question on bb, people may think this string may be answered.

i don't know the answer, but it could be the answer. you will need to disassemble the valve body partly any way you go.

      regards,
      byron

    Hello Edwin,

my 86 245 has this problem. There's a good site for valve body rebuild. follow the e-address below. one gasket set is not cheap--about $91 at my volvo dealer. most parts are dealer items only, except for the transm filter & gasket. the ball bearings are cheap though--4 total in valve body, but for gears 1-2, 1 is needed. measure all check balls for 5.5 mm dia.

    http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/VolvoAW7XValveBodyService/AW7Xpage2.html

i bought the transm manual this site calls for and it gives some additional details that can help you to do the valve body job.

some part #s & local volvo dealer prices
    1377746 5.5 mm check ball, ~$2
    3520329 tranny filter gasket, 2 needed ~$3.82
    1239683 transm pan gasket ~$11.25
    271292 gasket kit, AW70(?) ~$91

i checked with my local volvo specialist shop and they don't even touch the transm.

    regards,
    byron golden

Based on my similar experience with the AW70/71 (family) of transmissions in my '84 244GL, yes, that is your problem.

One of the valve balls, C5, is probably worn and sticks at one side on its run through the valve channel wherein it operates.

Do you also find a late 1-2 upshift, like the car is holding onto first gears until the last moment? This is the classic symptom. The ball sticks until fluid pressure pops it out, giving you the rough upshift.

On my car, it happened both ways until the fluid was warm.

the FAQ covers this repair, and the valve ball controllers are available at your dealer.
