weird Ebay Volvo, with air shocks? 200 1984

I saw this car up for bid earlier, and the auction mentions it has air shocks installed. In one of the pictures you can see the leveler buttons on the center dash. He goes on to say that it has a trailer hitch as well, and that this was all a factory installed option. Does anyone have info on whether or not Volvo really did have an air shock option, or is this aftermarket stuff? Seems kind of weird...

The '70s GTs in Scandinavia had air shocks and leveller switches like this car. It was standard from the factory.

Cheers

My '80 wagon has the same setup, I cant tell you if it was dealer installed or factory option, the car was sold in Finland originally.
It has an onboard compressor mounted on the passenger side rear behind the wheel well.
This one didn't have a trailer hitch, but I figure it came in handy for leveling out with a heavy ice load on the car.

Yea, Nivomat shocks are what they sound like, i believe the 7 and 9 series have them. They sound like pretty good shocks, they are expensive as anything though. I saw that IPD sells Replacement shocks that are just normal, for like half the price. What is that little guage right next to that switch with the up and down arrows? is that the fuel economy?

The switch on the dash looks kinda factory, not an add on like the red rocker switch beside it. I guess Volvo does make some rare accessories. The other day, I saw a gas milage meter on an earlier 240 with the old style dash. It sits in the space where the tach normally goes and it gives you an estimate of your current fuel comsumption.

Technically, it was NOT a "factory option" but rather a "dealer-installed accessory". Volvo has always offered all kinds of accessories.

I've seen the dealer-installed air shock package twice, both times on 264s.

Yes, I think that was an option for towing.

I know that IPD was selling some air cells for use inside the rear springs.

Another Volvo factory option that not many know about, the 245 had an optional Nivomat rear shock and spring in '81~'85.
If anybody knows where I can get a set of springs and mounts, I want them to put on my 245 with a set of 965 Nivo's I have.
