Volvo Power Antenna Part Number 1222955-5

Hello, again,

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to correctly wire this Volvo Power Antenna to the AM/FM Radio?

Does anyone have a wiring diagram?

Does anyone have a Volvo Parts Catalog with Photos Parts Numbers on CD?

Thanks,
RLC

Is the radio a Volvo radio? What year is your brick? Series? 20o, 700, etc.

This is from what I learned from my 1984, 1986, 1988 240s.

If the radio is plugged into a 9-place connector, there is a red wire fromn that connector that hooks to a separate wire from the radio. that one is the power antenna.

In the trunk above the spare tire is a connector, black and green wires. It is for the power antenna.

The Volvo power antenna will have a connector for that plug. It will also have a ground wire, goes under the bracket screw into the fender seam, and the connector for the antenna.

If your Volvo has the above wiring, it's a plug-n-play deal.

Good Luck,

Bob

Hello Bob,

Not so plug and play. I have a 1981 244DL, B21A Engine. It has a standard Volvo AM/FM, which is really a Mitsubishi or some other Japanese Made-rebadged radio. The Antena, is also original Volvo, but from a later model car, with Blue/White Wire and Blue/Red Wire. The Radio does have the Red Antenna or Radio On Signal 12V Wire. It also has the 9 Pin Connector, a knob in the middle of the switch array that balances the 4 Volvo Speakers with wires coming from that to a 9 Pin Connector, to another. If this is an original install or dealership job, they were a bunch of monkeys. Surely it could have been done much simpler. Volvo told me that this is a Semi-automatic Antenna, that an Up/Down Switch is required. I believe with the antenna grounded, the Blue/White wire to 12V supply will cause the antenna to retract and the motor will continuwe to run. The Blue/Red wire will cause it to extend and continue running. So, there must be a relay to switch between up and down and a switch or a switch with multiple terminals.

I have the original Volvo Radio booklet, but it gives no clues.

Thanks,
Bob
