brakes, et cetera. 200

I believe my car is ABS(1992 DL); I've only owned it a short while, but I remember that was mentioned; though it doesn't feel any different than my 1987 244 or 87 245.

I have numerous Volvo Greenbooks that came with the car, but I was wondering if the information wouldn't be valid since the book is for Brakes 1975--?? (not sure when it was printed). None of my books mention any dates past 1985 (I believe).

Where would the easiest place to buy pads be? autozone, foreign autoparts?

Also, off topic, my driver's side rear brake light goes out when I apply the brakes, but the parking lights all work. All the others work and it appears the bulb is fine, though there seems to be a little corrosion (not too bad) on the contact. Could the corrosion be the problem or would it be a wiring issue?

Finally, is there anything else I should do to the car since I've only owned it less than 1500 miles? (the previous owner was a meticulous DIYer, but the only recent work I know of was that he changed the timing belt)

Thanks again,
Dan

Listen to what Stoney tells you, it is the gospel. Get the Bentley and make sure you follow the procedure exactly per the section on the later model ABS systems. I believe they take a little different procedure than the earlier brakes. Check your intake vents at teh front of the car jusr behind the hood in front of the windshield, these tend to have leaves, needles and other objects in them and are hard to clean out.. Search this board for several posts on the subject as well as a few cures to the open vents..The needles can get all the way back to the rear of the car through the air vent system..The back of my blower motor assembly was stufed full of leaves when I had to replace the blower motor..The best thing to look for are the psts on this board as many people discuss the common problems most of us have.. Good Luck on the new purchase..

Lamp socket corrosion is the likely cause of the brake light failure. Clean the socket contacts with steel wool and use a good anti corrosion spray before reinstalling a new pair of bulbs (due to the bulb out sensor you should always replace brake lamps in pairs as the diffference in amp draw between makers and age of bulbs can cause a false indication when none actually exists).

Pads. Repco/Axxis/PBR brand is good. Try FCP Groton http://www.fcpgroton.com
as a source. Get anti squeal lube and shims as well as pads.

Get a Bentley Volvo 240 manual. It has all the info you need and is worth the $40 cost.
