what were the largest diameter STEEL wheels that volvo made for the 700 series? 700 1987

I am trying to upgrade wheels on my 740 for better roadhandling performance, but I want to go the sleeper route... I don't want anything flashy.

I know volvo made steel wheels, but what was the largest diameter steel wheel that volvo made that will work with the 740 bolt pattern?

or can anyone suggest an alternative that will give me the sleeper look?

Thanks.

15", on later 7/9-series GL models.

16" can be had, but you'll need to get spacers - they're FWD offsets.

An alternative is to go with the 15" Rigel alloys - instant "old man's car" look with the giant stainless steel platter hubcaps. :)

Yeah, those Rigel's look just like cheap plastic wheel covers.

        Ugly Volvo alloys ... 700 1987

You might be thinking of the Omega's of the late-80's 760's, which looks just like the hubcaps of the late-80's/early-90's 240's and base 740's.

The Rigels look like these ...

Like the 14" Dersus, they just scream "old slow car".

The wheel in the picture is from a Turbo. The Non-Turbo has an even smaller-diameter centre stainless-cover, resulting in longer 'spokes'. Tire size is P185-70R14

            Listing of Volvo 200/700/900 wheels. 700 1987

The wheel pictured above is a Rigel (15"), and was standard equipment on 760s throughout the '80s. The 760s usually came stock from the factory with either Rigels or Omegas. The 740s that didn't have either a turbo or ABS usually came with either 15" steel wheels, or 14" Dersus wheels. The Dersus and Rigels are incredibly strong if you're looking for a wheel that's a bit more resistant to bends from hitting curbs, etc. I have two sets of 15" Omegas for my Blue 240 Wagon (one set was from a 760 Turbo, the other was from a 760 PRV-6).
