I didn't have the issues with breaking the door cards, but the speaker selection is a whole other issue. Crutchfield recommends 4 inch speakers in the front with this adapter plate thing made of sheet aluminum. Sounds like crap!!
So, what I did to get real 61/2 inch speakers in there was a little labor intensive. Find a ecent set of 6 1/2 speakers, and do a little Dremel surgery. Take the Volvo grills, which aren't quite big enough to fit the 6 1/2 speaker under them, position them (on your workbench) on top of your new speakers. Mark the two areas you will need to cut off on the metal speaker lip. BE VERY CAREFUL TO NOT CUT THE SPEAKER SURROUND. This is the foam or cloth part of the speaker. Tape off the rest of the speaker to prevent metal particles from getting in there, and Dremel away. Take your time, and you'll burn up a few cutting wheels. Smooth down the metal with the wire brush attachment, and you're done. Look at your factory speakers, and you'll see what your new speakers should be shaped like now.
I installed Boston Acoustics 6 1/2 speakers, model FX6, in my fromt doors and they sound great!!
You do have to go with 5 1/4s in the back doors on a wagon, would be way too much cutting back there.
