Water Leak whenever it rains 700 1987

Fellow bricksters,

I need help on this one big time. Issues leading to a leak on the LEFT hand of side only i.e. both footwells and also left side of boot (in particlar) whenever we have any decent heavy rain. It also only seems to happen whenever we park the car on a hilly area with either nose up or down it does not seem to matter, this is a big problem as our home is on a decent slope of a hill.

Please help anyone, as it appears that we have a Volvo that has superpowers that can adjust the laws of physics when it comes to letting water into the car. This is spoiling an otherwise excellent reliable old brick. It is also driving me "nucking futs" as I cannot see where the water is entering.

Cheers everyone......

Mike and Dick caught the front well. The boot leak is probably a loose or cracked seal. Dust it with talcum to see where it contacts and where water gets through. You might also examine the rear lamp housings to determine whether they are leaking.

Yup, this one drove me crazy too.

But which left are you talking about? Drivers side or passenger's side?

    If it's driver's side,

remove the kickpanel near your left foot, there is a small rectangular plastic insert, about 4-5 inches square. Mine leaked like a sieve. I could actually watch the water come in.

I put a bead of plumbers goop around the perimeter of each and it solved the problem. This also applies to the one on the passenger's side.

Now, another potential source on the passenger's side is the cover that goes over the heater blower inlet... do do this one, you need to remove the panel between the hood and the windshield (dunno what it's called) and put the plastic shield or water diverter or whatever it's called back in place using some kind of goop.

    hope this helps.

    Mike

      Mike,

My car is a Right Hand Drive so it is on the passenger side (i.e. drivers side on US cars). However your answer does not cover the water in trunk issue. Do you think I may be looking for mopre than 1 leak ?????

      Cheers

      Jason

Take a look through the screen just before the windshield. Chances are there is a cracked area where the water goes through. You need to remove that panel, clean the area and reseal with a good caulk that can contract and expand.

    Good luck,

    dick
