I have soaked the Lambda sensor in P'Blaster for a while in the shop. What is used to remove this item? The engine is a 1984 B23F, so the sensor is mounted in the exhaust manifold, just above the flange, which tends to limit the tool that is used. I have tried a number of different wrenches to no avail. Has anyone a favourite trick? I have a new sensor I would like to install.

    I watched n EBAY for several months and checked all the local stores for a decent O2 socket. Problem with getting one at Sears, Autozone is they usually only sell the 7/8 size. Its close to the 22mm we need but a tad bigger. I ended finally getting a 22mm Snap On on EBAY for $10.

    I think you can buy an O2 sensor removal socket at a place like Autozone. If I'm not mistaken, there isn't anything special about the Volvo O2 sensor in terms of the socket.

    The O2 socket will have a notch in it for the wire to come through.

      Thanks 'Soul Bro'", but we don't have an Autozone within 15 hours of here. I will check the local NAPA etc tomorrow. Actually, if FORD has a similar sensor, perhaps the local FORD dealer might have an appropriate tool. If all else fails, I will use a deep socket; run the wires through it and use vice grips.

      Actualy if you buy our O2 sensor at AUtozone (you can get Bosh O2 sensor for a Ford Mustang at a fraction of the cost of one for a Volvo 240, just do a search here on the board on Ford Mustang, the only thing you'll have to do is splice and use your connector), Autozone will let you use their tool on loan at no charge.

      P Blaster is good though. The tool box with O2 sensor removal from Autozone was very useful as well when I did my O2 sensor.
