I have a 87 740 that will not run I have had a short ? or something going on for some time the fuel pump relay will buzz or click some of the time it is like i am not getting power to the relay ?? I can jump 30 and 72/2 at the relay plug and get them to run but the car will still not run SOME times the relay will click click click and it will start but as the relay clicks the motor cuts out HELP me i love my brick and want to drive her

Take the cover off of the relay and plug it in. Watch the contacts while someone turns the key to on just before cranking position. 1st set of contacts should close. Then crank the starter and watch that 2nd set of contacts operates. Intermittent operation means bad relay, most likely. Pull ur own parts junkyards sell relays pretty cheap. They are dated so buy the latest dates that you can. My place charges $3.00. Or you can take a chance and spring for a new one. Sounds like a relay problem. Good luck.

If the relay works but you still have problems like I did, use a nail file and file the contacts of the relay clean. That solved the problem in my case and was the reason I was able to get my '87 760 GLE for only $500 (recently evaluated by my mechanic at $2,000, had been listed for sale by the PO at $2,900).

You can also resolder the joints on the PCB if somme appear cracked or otehrwise "unflowed", it seems that is a frequent fault. Look it up in the FAQ.
