my oil temp gauge never comes off the stop..it did when driving across the 1800 1973

..rockies in septemper last year, but haven't seen it move since arriving on long island , new york.. do most folks here ever get a deflection on their oil temp gauges, or do i have a deflection disfunction?

    my oil temp gauge never comes off the stop..it did when driving across the 1800 1973

    It was hooked up and working on my first 1800e ('72). It would slowly come off cold and settle into the lower middle range. And I never saw it budge at all - at least any time I bothered looking at it.

    On my current '71 1800e some previous owner replaced it with a matching Smiths ammeter. I'm guessing they never saw it budge and figured they might as well get something useful for that dash spot.
