Things noticed since getting my car back in time. S90-V90

I've taken about a 150 journey on my 960 since replacing the timing belt and all pulleys and belts. More power is obvious, wants to get up and really go now. Im not sure about fuel milage yet, won't the computer have to get a schedual on how I'm driving again for awhile after it sat for three days with the battery disconected? Well again more power, the tranny for some reason seams that it's smoother in shifts, and with downshifting ,when going for the gas.
While the intake cam was mistakenly set by last mechanec, a tooth and a 1/2
retarded, (which I rectified with you peoples kind help) I have noticed 1 other important fact. Before I had an oil problem I wasn't quiet sure of, I replaced my breather box, because oil was coming into the engine through the flame trap. When ever I took the breather off to clean the throttle body I would find a small pool of oil at the bottom of the intake. After getting things back in spec, and a few miles under the belt,no oil pool in the bottom of my intake. Whats happened? Has the increased combustion cause the rings to seal better. I think I noticed that the engine turned over easier before getting things back in spec. After resetting the cams the thing was a bear to turn over by hand.
I'm enclosing a photo of a change made to my air intake a few weeks back,
when up at speed around 50 and up you can tell quiet a diff, also installed a k@n air filter to round it out.
Thanks again
Poolman

Im really happy to hear everything worked out as planned. Its interesting how some people are completely scared of doing the timing belt change themselves. But after doing the timing belt on my Dodge Neon, the 960 was a piece of cake. There is something really unholy about a sideways engine.
As for the flame trap I just disconnected it from the intake. I attached a fuel filter to where the flame trap used to be and from there I ran a hose to underneath the car just behind the driver seat. I know I know but I've seen it done so many times on motorcycles that I know it doesn't affect anything. Just keeps the throttle body and intake cleaner.
Nice intake modification. I did something similar if a little more extreme. Did you disconnect your hot air intake flap at the bottom of the air box? One side effect of the ram air intake is your aur filter gets dirty much faster. Now I just run it at 90 degrees to the oncoming air. Its only slightly less effective than the ram air setup I had before and the air filter stays cleaner longer. Another thing you can easily do is remove the 2 screens before and after the AMM sensor. You will notice a difference in throttle response. Contrary to popular belief, there are no negative side afflicts to not having the screens. I have had mine out for 15k miles.

Interesting set up ya got there. Yes I blocked off the flap on the hot air box some time ago. It wasn't stuck open or closed just half way. Hope that didn't hurt anything.
About the bypass on the flame trap, sounds like the old road draft tubes that the big block Fords used back in the early 60's. Had thought of doing the same thing. Here in southwest Va, we don't have to pass the smog tests that are elsewhere. Do you just plugg the vacume line that conected to the flame trap, up or is that hooked into the draft tube?
On the screens on both sides of the air meter can they be replaced after taking them off, and did you get better power?
The dirty air filter problem I eliminated with the use of the K/N air filter.
I searched all around to find one , finally called direct and the one for the v90, 98 model worked they only had a couple of them in stock at the time so was able to order direct 50 bucks. It can be cleaned and reused. I ran this same type filter on my 66, 427 galaxie with 2 fours from the factory.
This filter will really flow some air,
      Thanks for the responces

Yes the screens can be put back depending on the model year. I know for a fact the 92 960 has plastic screens that have to be hacked out of the AMM. Not a fun proposition. If on the other hand you have the metal mesh screens, they can be removed by uncliping metal ring that holds it in place. It can be reinstalled just as easily. Your fingers are the only tools you are going to need. The engine feels more lively with instant kick as soon as you touch the trottle. Try it for yourself and if you don't like it you can go back.

Ok got a couple of other things to inquier about, the road draft tube do you keep the vacume hose hooked to the draft tube or is it plugged? The air box hose, the silver colored part where did that come from, is it to stand high heat?
Did the deal with the removal of the screens from the amm and your right, liked the extra little boost that gave as well.
Anybody ever tried NOS on the little tourqe boxes, their could be some big hp produced from these engines if done right. Has there ever been a turbo set up for this engine? It's got me wondering.
          Thanks Poolman

The hose coming from the engine block is hooked up to the fuel filter (white thing), then to a hose going down to under the car. The plastic part where the flame trap lives is still in its place but with the hole where hose used to be pluggerd up. Yes, everything stand up to the head. The silver looking part is (im embaressed to say) duct tape. it also stands up to heat very well. I have to save all the parts for my next smog check so I can put it all back together as if nothing had ever happened.
As for turbo setup, this same engine powers the twin turbo S80 T6, mounted sideways. And yes there is a turbo 960 running around Oregon done by MVP Volvo using an S80 engine block but with a single large turbo. It is pushing close to 400hp. The transmission from the 960 was also used on the Toyota Supra Turbo so no problem there. LINK:
