Throttle Body Cleaning... Wow. 200 1989

You know, it never ceases to amaze me how much better the car runs after a throttle body cleaning. I hadn't had mine thoroughly cleaned (i.e., completely removed from car and cleaned) in about 2 years. I took the 30-40 minutes to do on Friday and replaced the gasket. Just driving around town and gunning it on the Interstate's on-ramp was definitely a pleasure.

Tomorrow, I bring my baby in for new front struts (Boge Turbo Gas), strut mounts (SKF), new brake rotors (Zimmermann) and pads (OEM) all around. I'm dying to see how it will handle/drive after my old, broken, and crappy original strut mounts and piece-of-crap 5 year old Gabriel (gag, yes.. I know) struts feel when they are replaced. I had all the front end bushings and tie-rods replaced in January, so, hopefully this will completely tighten up the rest of any loose ends!

Now time for a hypothetical question... How would broken strut mounts affect a car's performance, even if all the other front end parts were new and struts were new? Would it lead to a jarring and harsher ride?

Thanks..

Throttle Body Cleaning... Wow. 200 1989

My '86 brick sedan has 298K now. I bought the car about 6 years ago with 180K on it. About 6 months ago (280K) I cleaned my throttle body for the first time. Easy enough to do, but I did not notice any difference in its performance. Just peace of mind that it's done. I also had a valve adjustment at 275K when my independent mechanic did the timing belt. After that service, I did notice it to be a little peppy and smoother running.

    Later dudes and dudets......

I think you're going to love your Boge Turbogas. Not too harsh riding yet still nice and firm.

And nice choice on brakepads... I never use anything but factory.

The Boge Turbo Gas struts are nice, just got the car back. My mechanic told me that one of my Gabriel struts were broken/leaking. After driving on some fairly rough roads around here and going over my apartment complex's speedbumps, I could immediately tell a difference. Quite happy with the "upgrade."

By strut mounts, you mean the upper bearing and mount, correct? These have been known to ether make noise or a rattling feeling over bumps. I have also replaced all the bushings, tie rods, ball joints and still have loose rattle over low speed bumps. I'll be replacing the strut cartridges and upper mount/bearings soon. I also noticed the upper steering column u-joint to have some play and will change that last.
What kind of improvements in driveability did you notice after cleaning the throttle body?

After cleaning the throttle body, I just noticed that the car seemed a lot smoother and more responsive when accerlating. I could definitely tell a difference (100% positive it's not just a psychological thing).
