Ceiling cloth falling off 700

The interior roof cloth trim of my '91 740 is coming off and sagging onto my wifes head. Anyone know of an easy and effective fix?

Mine is falling off too on the rear. I was hoping to get some fabric glue or something for cheap fix. It's funny I was at the arts and craft store looking at different spray glues available, and a lot of them specifically say : "not for automotive headliners"

    Jorgan,

Two key words in your post spur this reply. Cheap and easy. My headliner was falling down and I was broke in college. So I pulled it out, pulled the cloth off the pressed board and the took and wire brush and scraped off the foam backing that the cloth left behind. Then I sanded the pressed board (cardboard?) until it was respectfully smooth and then I shot it with black rubberized under coating. One 18oz can will cover the entire headliner. Then I put it back in the car and I spent about 2.5 hours and 2.5 bucks. Sunroof is a different story but I did that as well. Just depends what you want and how much you want to spend. For my car that is in great shape, but closing in on 20 years old, I'm pleased with the results.

If its anything like mine it will only get worse, so you may as well bite the bullet.
There is some good reading available here so check out sililar posts.
If you don't buy the kit, I believe that 1/8th lining is a must and I'm sure an upholsterer or some kind soul here would put you on to the right adhesive.

Try thumb tacks from office max. They work for me! Less than a $1.00, even better.

When this happened to mine I used straight pins for several years, until my wife complained and I hired someone to replace the headliner (it only gets worse). They did it in the garage at work which was nice.It cost several hundred dollars, but it sure was nice one it was done.

Should i assume that my 88 760 wagon also has the f'glass panels. I do have a propane type tank glue/spraygun system for the glueing aspect but I see where it is a big job.

When I bought my '90 740 the cloth was also coming off the headlineer. The cheap and easy fix is to go to your local auto body supplier and buy the box of cute little plastic screws made just for this problem. They work quite well. You have black or white 1 1/2" diameter discs on your headliner, but what the hey. No more sagging material. Mine have been in for 1 1/2 years and 15,000 miles with no problem coming back down.

replacing the headliner by yourself really isn't THAT horrible of a job, assuming you have a good assistant. the hardest part of the job is getting the headliner in and out of the front passenger side without breaking it.

after that, it's easy work to clean the backboard and put new material down.

i ended up spending a good 4 hours or so doing the job, and it looks pretty good. in materials, i spent about a total of maybe $80, and i still have enough fabric to do another run through.

if you do decide to redo the headliner (which i honestly hope you do!) make sure you get 1/8" material. DO NOT GET 1/4" material. the whole procedure for redoing the headliner is in the FAQ. also, make sure you get the right kind of adhesive. i ended up getting 3M Super Trim Adhesive (can 08090). each can runs about $13. you need about 2 cans, or 3 if you want to be safe. you'll need about $35 worth of fabric to be safe.

anyway, good luck if you decide to go this route. be careful to not break the board.

p.s. i held up the material with pushpins for a few months before i got around to doing the job too.
