740 GLE 16-valve timing belt whine 700 1989

I recently replaced my timing belt and balance belt with the handy instructions on this page. It mentions that the balance belt whines at first until it's broken in. I replaced the belts about 400 miles ago and there's still a noticable whine. If I loosen the belt, the whine quiets down, but the belt seems loose. When it's tightened so that moderate thumb pressure gets about 1/4" deflection, I get the whine. The old belt was about that tight when I got the car, and there was only a slight whine. Does this sound like the belt is too tight, or should I wait longer for it to break in?
Thanks,
-Fran

Balance belt is too tight. Adjust while running at warm idle at bottom tensioner. Adjust in very small increments until belt starts to flop. Then tighten slightly until flopping decreases. I had the same problem. Too tight balance belt will damage shaft bearings or produce bearing noise. Remember this belt does not drive a heavy load so lots of tension is not necessary. Not may people have experience with B234f motors due to relative rarity. Not many of the expensive tension tools around either. Good luck.
