LUCID, if you could help out just one more time.... 200 1993

Ok, I went through the checks you suggested, it's not the headlight relay. The headlights/ parking lights are all working fine now after changing out all fues and bulbs. The only problem I'm left with is that the right (if you're looking at the wagon from behind) rear fog and directional are not working. The left are fine, so the relays must be ok right, or am I assuming too much? You seem to be very knowledgeable re: wiring and elecrical matters so I appreciate a point in the right direction.
I thank you and Betty Boop('93 245 114,665k) thank you

At some point Volvo dropped the right side fog light. My '93 940 only has the one on the left. My '88 240 has fogs on both rear sides, maybe your '93 only has the left side fog.

The headlights/ parking lights are all working fine now after changing out all fues and bulbs. OK, but overkill on the fuses. 15 and 16 are the only ones feeding all those lights you first posted about.

The only problem I'm left with is that the right (if you're looking at the wagon from behind) rear fog and directional are not working.

1 - Are you referring to "rear fog and directional" as a single bulb? (just so we're on the same page, the Fog is #1 at Top, signal is #3)

2 - I thought you said the Fog worked, after you swapped in a bulb unit??? And it gave a Bulb Failure light? By starting a new thread so often, the overall continuity tends to suffer.

Does the Fog Light switch light up when active?

No, I'm referring to two seperate bulbs; (1) top red where the fog is & (2) Yellow directional

So what about Question #2—Foglight with 745 unit swapped in, now no Fog light. Forgive me, but I'm pointing out how inconsistancies and changing threads makes remote diagnosis harder than it needs to be.

As I've said, forget the Fog light for now. It's not a legal requirement, and may not even be wired on US cars. And if you have no multimeter or test light (guessing here), I can't tell you where and how to test anything.

I'd guess well over 95% of Directional problems (single light problems) are caused by the bulb itself. its contacts with the bulb holder, or the holder's contacts with the circuit paths on the Light Unit.

If you can snag a meter or test light, test for pulsing voltage on the Blue wire coming in to the Right Light Unit (a flat "spade" plug in terminal), or the center metal strip on the bulb holder, which contacts the center of the bulb's base.

If you get looking at those Right side wires, no Violet means no Fog Light on that side. (Check to see if there is a Violet wire on the right, up top.)

You're ahead of where you were this morning, and tomorrow's another day.

I think you need to double check the connections of one of the fuses, and perhaps of the bulbs.

Make sure the connections are nice and clean. Use a pencil eraser to clean the contacts a bit.

Remove the fuses and pinch the contacts together a bit, to make a firmer hold. Don't pinch them so far that it makes putting a fuse in difficult. When you put the fuses back in their slots, spin them. That will break loose any corrosion that might be on the contacts.

I don't know which fuse is for the passenger side, but one of them is. The other is for the drivers side.

Does the flasher flash extra quick when you turn on the right blinker? It should if the bulb is out.

Yes the flasher goes double-time on the passenger side. I'll try to mess with the fuses and bulbs a bit more and see what happens.Thank you

If parking lights are on, on both sides, you can forget about a fuse problem. Stick to the bulbs—make sure the contacts on the holder are clean.
Bend them down a bit for more tension.
Clean the contact surface on the light unit too.
Try twisting the bulb holder back & forth with power on. It may find a position with better contact.

As I think I said elsewhere, the Right Fog may not even be wired (except you had it on earlier). And if it is wired, the Headlights must be on (Low beam, I think) before the Fog Light(s) get power.
