still trying to swap out 240 alternator for 740 alternator and need help 200

Never seen a 740 alternator, so this is a SWAG.

The 240 alternator, newer ones not having the external regulator, have but three wires on the back side. The 740 likely has the same.

Large wire, red on 240s, from a stud/nut/washer on the alternator to the starter. Carries the charging current.

Small wire, red on 240s, connects on the alternator back to a spade lug which is mounted in an insulated place.

Small wire, black on 240s. Connects from under one of the bolts holding the alternator bracket onto the block to one of the alternator frame bolts. Sometimes a spade lug. This wire grounds the alternator to the block, necessary since the alternator rides in its bracket on rubber bushings.

    Hope this helps.

      HI! Thanks for the help!

Im pretty clear on the 2 red wires i think, it looks like i will need to splice the spade adapter onto the small wire as my stock 240 alt only had posts for the 2 reds. im still a little foggy about the black though. on the new 740 alt there is a blue wire still attached to unit, is where i attach the black?

still in need of help! thanks
