Looking for a couple of parts! 140-160

I am looking for these two parts so that I can install a shorter shifter M40 trans on my 1968 122S. (I have the trans.)
All dealers I have contacted have told me the same thing..."No longer available"

1255404-4 Casing
688469-6 Reinforcement

If any knows where I can get these please advise.

I would even take them cut off of a salvage yard car.

I would have said www.gcp.se, but they do not have it. Try www.scandcar.com who might be able to help you. They are in Europe, but there are no hassles with international orders, they are friendly, and they know Volvo very well.

    Have fun...

My guess is that the 'casing' you refer to would be the top of the gearbox which replaces the one for the wobble stick, and houses the linkage. The 'bracing'... I have no idea. But my guess is that if you've got the complete transmission, you have both of those parts. I could be wrong.

That all said though, I personally think you're nuts. I've always felt that the short shifters in 140s have a very unprecise feel to them. And they wear out sometimes such that you can get stuck in 3rd or 4th.

The wobble sticks of course have their problems too... falling out of 3rd over bumps, and of course the long throw. But I way prefer them anyway.

The early 1800 short shifters are an exception. I really like the feel of them.

Just my opinion though. If you've got a complete transmission with short shifter, stick it in. I think it'll fit inside the tunnel fine, but you will probably have to cut a new hole in the tunnel, and your rear seat heat system will be in the way.

Good point and I agree, but I perhaps forgot to mention that the trans is off a P1800. The casing is the sheet metal that needs to be welded in place on teh floor/tunnel. The brace is for support. These are both parts that are used on the 140 series.

What year is your 'P1800' gearbox out of? that designation would imply its out of a pre '64 1800.

Did your 140 come with an overdrive? If not, you need a bunch of stuff, and that could well be year dependant.

Need more details... Need to know if your 140 has the original straight 4 speed, or if its already got an overdrive, and need to know the year of the donor 1800. Could make a biggie difference. Main thing is whether that 1800 is pre or post 1969.75

These parts are basically a sheet metal part, P/N 125504, a transmision, that is to be welded to the existing tunnel to accomodate a short shifter P1800 trans.
The 688469 is just a supporting braket for the transmision.
Both of these parts are from the 140 series.

OK, I FINALLY found them on my microfiches. I am amazed that they even show
as separate parts and I doubt that they were ever stocked as such.

What you need to do is find a 140 series in a salvage that has a gear shift
like the one you got and cut what you need out of its tunnel and weld in into
yours. Failing that, get some sheetmetal and fabrication tools and make your
        own.

I thought you were looking for shifter parts.
