Amp light -- battery discharge quick fixes? 140-160 1972

Haven't had this happen before, but my amp light is staying on in my '72 164E. Are there are quick things I should tinker with before letting my mechanic diagnose? The car turns over fine, and the alternator is relatively new.

If you have the Motorola/SEV alternator it is probably your isolation diode(s)
gone bad. (some have one, some have two) They are mounted in a plate bolted
to the back of the alternator with insulating washers, etc. The diodes are
NEGATIVE polarity, and can be found relatively easily. If you can solder and
hammer, you can unsolder them/it, knock it/them out, carefully knock/press the
new one(s) in and resolder and reinstall. Probably good to take the plate with
you when you go to find the diodes so you are sure to get the right size/kind.
