Windsheild and tranny question 140-160 1967

I had read somewhere that the 240 windsheilds from '89-91 are a perfect fit in the 140s. Any truth to that? Also I was wondering what it takes to add overdrive to the stock 140 4 speed transmission. Does it require a complete swap? Thanks in advance!

Best bet on the tranny is to find a donor car, grab the transmission, crossmember, driveshaft (make sure the flanges on new box are same size), wiring, switch, relay...

Pretty straight forward if you've got ALL of them parts.

There's lots on the subject in the archives...

Windsheild and tranny question 140-160 1967

240 winshields will fit. the 91+ are the best, but the clips would have to be removed and there would be no crome trim . they are more aerodynamic. but if you were into aerodynamics i guess you wouldn't be driving a volvo.
you can not just easly swap a OD onto a m40. the main shaft is diferent
    best of luck

Windsheild and tranny question 140-160 1967

yes, its possible, but not advisable. The output shafts are of different length and heavy modification is needed. You'll probably need a lot of parts from the M-41 anyway, so might as well do a complete swap. About the windshield, I've got one from a 83 244 on my 74 144, but I reused the trim from my 144. The glass is the same shape and almost the same thickness. Not sure about the trim and moulding.

Windsheild and tranny question 140-160 1967

I'm not sure about the year but I have heard about windshields from the 240 swapping into the 140, I've seen pictures of a couple 140s that had this done as well. As far as the tranny goes you'd need the front half of the driveshaft, the crossmember, OD unit of course, and it looked as though there was some housing that connects the OD to the transmission. Of course I might just be talking out of my ass. But I'm sure someone more knowledgable will make a post soon =)
