What's the Purpose of this Tranny Plug? 200 1985

This is a 1985 AW70 tranny with a white, barbed nipple on the top driver's side edge. What is the purpose, if any, of this?

Mike,

Zoom is correct on both counts ... it is a vent and it should be open with no clogs.

I think that's the vent/breather. Make sure it's clear and not plugged up.
