BRICK vs DEER.......LOUSY START TO THE DAY 200 1986

Well, it had to happen sooner or later. I drive 42 miles, mostly rural, in the dark each day and have seen my share of deer standing safely in the distance on the side of the road. This morning was different. With my high beams on, I saw one with its shoulders about the belt line of the window. I blinked and the next thing I knew....SLAMMMMMMM. I saw my side mirror collapse inward and a beige blur. I pullded over and found fur in my door handle and lock edge and my ds door trim missing. I was lucky and only ended up with 3 small dents. One on the ds door and two on the front fender. I walked back a picked up my door trim peice and found it intact, not bent at all. If I'd been a quarter of a second slower, I would have hit it head on at the 40 mph I was doing. I'm off to the brick yard for clips this weekend and reach in to pop the dents out.
I wonder what my horoscope reads today.....don't get out of bed yet.

It's what the roof rack on the wagon is for.

BRICK vs DEER.......LOUSY START TO THE DAY 200 1986

I have posted my story before, but the short version is that my then teenage daughter totaled our '84 (which I had bought new!) by hitting a deer broadside at 50 m.p.h. Really screwed up both the deer and the car, but daughter was fine. The ironey was that I had bought the car when my daughter was born in order that we have a safe car to protect our "new baby." Well, 16 years later, the car protected my daughter in a way we never anticipated as we bought the car a decade and a half and 215k miles earlier!

Been there, done that quite a few times over the years. Hit the last one last spring. I was going 50-55 and hit the deer low and head on. Took out both headlights, the grill and pushed the top radiator support back maybe 1/2". No metal damage. Had have a few bounce into the sides of the cars over the years. My motto: Don't slow down and don't swerve for the bastards. 4 fresh ones yesterday morning in a mile stretch of road. 1 more, same area this morning.

BRICK vs DEER.......LOUSY START TO THE DAY 200 1986

as we say in NY... the longer you live in NY, the more likely you are to hit a deer. I'm not sure if your state has a saying similar to that one...

I hit mine the day after the superbowl...I couldn't sleep because of the onion dip and got up early to go to work... nailed bambi.

Glad your brick is mostly ok.

    Mike

BRICK vs DEER.......LOUSY START TO THE DAY 200 1986

    Should i tell you this?...

Been there, done that, didn't get no t-shirt..

Last year arround this time I drove my '67 122 from garage to home, late about 23:00. Had been doing the car ready for inspections next morning at 07:30 (in Denmark every 2 years) - I saw the 2 eyes reflecting my high beams, in good time managed to slow down to apr. 25 mph.. Waited and held a good eye for the deer.. BOOM!.. jumped right into my rear fender.. braked and u-turned.. saw that awfull image of a deer lying and kicking with all four legs.. Drove up to her, found she had broken the neck, but was alive.. In middle of absolutely nowhere, praid for my viking-gods to help out, and ended her missery bare-handed..
    Yep, I did that..

But actually felt good done it - even tuff - the right thing to do..

Well, small dent in my rear fender and passed the inspection with no comments.
So that following evening I went down there and made my peace with her..

    True story..
