almost stalling.......electrical gremlin.? 200 1993

i've had this very intermit. problem of the 245 stalling or stumbling at traffic lights for a month or so......sometimes within a mile of leaving the house, sometimes after 5 or 10 miles.....coil, cap, rotor, wires, plugs are new......tonight was the first time it happened at night....noticed that all the idiot lights on the dash came on for a sec. as it stumbled but not stalled on taking off from a light...does having all the idiot lights come on indicate some electrical prob..?.i thought there had been some posts about that indicating a bad alternator ground.....or am i confusing the issue..??? any ideas.???..............TIA.......j.

(can't believe this sox-yankees series....7 games and not a single penalty shot,.but maybe i'm confusing things again.!)

Have you considered the air mass meter? My 1988 AMM was bad and the car ran with extreme hesitation. Once I replaced it, car was good as new. A check for this problem that might work is to remove the AMM. If the car is running like before you removed it that could be the problem (that's what I did). Autozone sells them for about $210 (rebuilt). You get $40. back when you return the core. The good news is that you can return the part if you havn't used it. Double check this with them before you order it. Good luck

Check for loose AMM connector plug. Reinstall carefully if loose. Don't damage pins.

Very Important, power must be off when disconnecting/reconnecting!

BTW - Used AMM's are cheap. Start at around $50...

I think Gary has it right. I had an '86 which acted like your's and I cleaned all grounds, cleaned and greased connectors, cleaned the battery connections, cleaned the fuses, etc. Eventually the car stopped the stalling. I don't know exactly what I did finaly to fix it. No stalling now for several years.

If your model has the crank position sensor at the bellhousing, you should reach back behind the engine and feel the condition of the sensor cable. If you find any splits, replace that sensor, BTDT. You could also try wriggling that cable while the ehgine is idling to see if the engine stumbles.

That was quite a comeback the Sox made alright and with no penalty yardage too!

Hello John; If it was mine, I would check all the connections at the alt, starter, battery , all grounds and do a continuity check on the wires while they were wiggled. I just had a problem with the wifes car that turned out to be a positive battery terminal that was cracked, you could not see it with the grease until it was removed to clean and it broke in my hand.
And yep, I tuned in the TV to a fight and a baseball game broke out. What a great series! Maybe I can get some sleep now.
