Temp guage 700 1990

My 740 temp. guage needle works when it wants to. About once a week for about 5 minutes then it stutters and goes flat. Whats up with that????

    If it's like the 200's do a search for "Compensation Board"

    Have you tried giving it a tap and see if it 'wakes up' ? This is a common problem.

    If that dosn't work (you might have to give it a hard knock) - check that the wire connection to the gauge sensor (the front-most sensor in the head - near the knock-sensor) is proper. If it is loose or disconnected you will get no reading.

      my car has the same vintage.740 gl rEGINA .I needed to change the sensor 2-3 yrs ago.ABOUT 15 $ from fcpgroton.You have to either break the old one to remove it or use crow-feet wrench(EXPENSIVE,AND DOES NOT WORK TOO WELL COS OF TIGHT SPACE)
