142 rear end in 122? 120-130

Hi I was wondering if anyone has installed a 142 or 140 series rear end into a 122 and what was required if they documented it, I know that the 142 rear end is 1.8" wider but that shouldn't be a big deal as I am using different wheels which the offset should fix that change. What about the fronts what should I do to change the bolt pattern? get 1800e hubs?
I am looking for someone who has done this to give me some pointers on what I need to look out for, I realize I ened to change the panhard attachement to the other side and put spring perches on the rear end and also make the rods to mount the rear end.
My 122 is a 1961 and I want to upgrade it all to disc brakes and the 5x108 bolt pattern and LSD ala truetrac as I am tired of these Dana 27's giving out.
Regards,
Sean

    142 rear end in 122? 120-130

It might be easier to put in the rear end from an 1800 e or es, but as george said the suspension changed from the early models to the later ones.

"I am tired of these Dana 27's giving out."
I'm curious about this as I have only had one rear end give out...is it driving style or luck of the draw?

I think it's a little bit of both.. I drive very hard and I have gone through 1 nice one that was supposedly gone through before I got the car and 2 used ones, one of which wasn't that great. I have shattered the spider gears and broken teeth off the pinion gear. I am running 205's that are rather soft but it shouldn't be gripping hard enough to be doing this.
I realize that going with a 1800e rear end would be "easier" and if someone was offering to sell me one locally I would buy it and install it... hell even if it was within 300 miles... but there don't seem to be any I can find. Also yes if it was a 67 or 68 it would be a practically bolt in operation, however these are not realities in this situation....
What is a reality is that I have a 1961 and I have a 142 rear axle with the right ratio and with a truetrac sitting there to go into it. What do I need to do? anybody have any pointers on what to do (I don't need pointers on what I should do instead)?
      Sean

Where abouts are you? I have a donor 122...I *think* its a '65, whcih should have the same suspension as you do... And I need to have it dragged off soon. I'm *NOT* planning on pulling the rear, and if you are anywhere near the Denver area, you can come get it... bring your hot wrench.

But I'd agree that the Dana 30 would be a better rear, and you can (as you have done) get a posi unit for it.

As for the front bolt pattern, I think you only would need to change to 1800e rotors. Maybe spindles too...
