Need advice on struts 700

I have a 1992 745 Turbo and need to replace the front struts. Looking for advice on which kind of struts to buy? Not looking for anything sporty just a strut like the original ones. Were the originals gas or hydrolic? Can you even buy hydrolic struts anymore?

Thanks,

I installed the Tociko front struts, and mow hit bumps a tiny bit harder, and recover twice as fast. Highway ride is perfect, maybe a little rough round town.
I noticed the chrome tube is at least 1/4" thicker on the Tocikos. Previous struts were Gabriel(miles unknown), but they were too embarrased about them to even stamp thir brand on the housings, i had to look up the number.

Hi Volvos4me,

KYBs are good. I have GR-2s in the front of my 745T and Gas-a-just in the back of both my 745s. They're stiff and can be a little harsh on rough roads, but overall are nice and come with a lifetime warranty (gotta love that!). IPD (www.ipdusa.com) has good discriptions of some different shocks, but they don't have KYBs for 700/900. I hope this helps!

The original turbo struts are a little stiffer than the non-turbo. Boge Turbo Gas might be a good clone. Their softer strut is the Boge Pro Gas. Bilstein HDs, while good quality, are in my opinion way too harsh for around town driving. I have no experience with their Touring Class struts.

Ditto above. I tried Boge ProGas on my 945 and they handled beautifully but were too harsh for daily driving, so I went to ProGas. They are a little stiffer than OEM, but with much better control. Bilsteins are OK on my 245T, but all others have ProGas and I'm quite satisfied.

Ditto the Turbo Gas. While I had the front end apart, I replaced as much rubber as available with poly. All the difference in the world at not a lot of expense.

Correction 700

correction, should be: "went to TURBOgas" struts, and "all others have TURBOgas" ... sorry...
