Eratic Idle in Park 89 760 Turbo 700 1989

With the vehicle in park the engine idles eratically from 900K to 15K back to 900 then to 15 and back to 900 again over and over. With a pinch of the Aux Air Valve House idle returns to normal.

Any suggestions?

Have you messed with the throttle body lately? I cleaned mine and had the same results with the eratic idle after. Turns out I screwed up the linkage and the throttle body switch was not seeing the car at idle. See the link below on how to make sure your throttle body valve is adjusted correctly.

Checked that. Not messed with the throttle body. Any other suggestions as to what it might be?

Have you checked that your ECU is seeing the TPS closing ?

After doing that, check that your IAC (if you have one) is clean and not sticky/jammed. If you pinch one of those IAC hoses and the idle returns to normal, then I would suspect the IAC.

Not sure what fuel-control system you have, so refer to the wiring diagrams.

If you have an IAC, verify that the wiring to it is okay and that the insulation is not bad. The ECU controls the -ve supply to the IAC (+ve voltage gets supplied via the ignition) - so if the insulation is bad and the wiring gets grounded, you could get either a fully-open or a fully-closed IAC.
