Hello, just got a 1979 265 in pretty good shape with the original V6 in it. I changed out the water pump (fun job) and am wondering if it should have the traditional ethylene glycol antifreeze or the other stuff designed for aluminum engines. The owners manual doesn't specify that I could tell. The old antifreeze was the regular yellow/green mix.

Thanks
Aaron

the regular Prestone stuff always worked great for me. Congrats on your aquisition, I loved both the six banger wagons I owned. Yeah, isn't the water pump fun? Just out of curiosity, did you pull the manifold, or go in through the front?

I took off the piece of the manifold directly over the water pump. It was only 5 bolts. I wanted to replace all the hoses and I don't see how you could unclamp the two in back of the water pump without taking out the manifold. If I had it to do again, I do it the same, but I'd also order the back cover of the pump and the bolts new - that was hell trying to get that cover off the old pump!
