Just got back from trying to register my beast and the VIN inspector could not find the complete VIN so I could not get her registered.

The old title has a 12 digit number that begins with 222441

On the firewall is a stamped ID plate with a partial VIN (222441) and paint index number and upholstery style number.

Remnant of old sticker on driver door (seems the door was replaced.

Another stamped plate on the left side of engine compartment (doesn't match and not enough number anyway)

Engine has a stamped "1952" on it.

The inspector said it is common to have the number on the frame also, but did not know where...


Any clues?

    It's stamped in the body under the hood, either above the heater box or on the right side of it, depending on year.

      "above the heater box" was where it was! Evidently an engine compartment repaint in her past had partially filled in the stamping making it barely legible but still there.
