It seems that every time a manufacturer comes out with a new model of their bilge fans, a few hundred of these auctions pop up ...
There are some sellers who are trying to peddle computer blower fans to supercharge gas scooters too. Seriously overpriced, of course.
The $25+ "resistor trick" still take the cake for profitability percentages, however.

The scary thing is he is running 22 auctions, 3 have bids on them from $49.95 to $51.00 I did a quick check of the "superchargers" section of ebay and there are several of these type things there running up to $150 starting bid. I wish I could find that link I saw on the 1800 list to the one that actually does produce enough boost to produce some HP. It cost a bunch and only ran for ~15 seconds per charge of the battery.

Awhile back, the engineering side of my brain toyed with the idea of trying to develop some sort of variable speed electric supercharger that was RPM dependent and would receive signals from the TPS, Coolant Temp sensor, and a vacuum switch. Sort of a "poor mans supercharger." -but I've already got, too many ideas/brainstorms and not enough time and resources.
Needless to say, I was quite surprised to see the auction. I wonder if it's just a constant speed fan, or it actually has some intelligence to it. However, I probably won't be jumping to the bidding of this auction. I too was amused by the text, especially the part: "without the thousands of dollars and harm to your engine. -Yeah, right... To get the HP increases he's bragging about from a 4-cylinder engine, the compression in the cylinders is going to go up from the huge increase of air mass. -if the device is even capable of moving that kind of air.
Another idea I'd been bouncing around in the back of my mind is trunk mounting an engine system in the back of a 740 wagon from a Bell Jetranger. I wonder what kind of acceleration you'd get out of the twin turbines? -but alas, not enough time, and I'm minus the helicopter.

P.S. Maybe I should inquire of the US Coast Guard. I'm pretty sure that they stripped the original engines from the Dolphins before they retrofited them to become the HH-65. The Mil-Spec Lycoming LTS-101-750B-2 engines that they installed in them will take the 5-ton bird beyond 200 mph. Maybe I could have a pair of the old engines or a set of decomissioned Lycomings??? -I think this merits a visit to Dolphin crew that's stationed a few miles North of me.

Hi Fitz,
Someone has done it, sort of, a while back there was a link on the yahoo 1800 list to a company that had connected 3 starter motors to a gearbox which ran a supercharger. It required a seperate battery and was only good for ~15 seconds at a time, if I remember right the price was well over $1000 also. The power needed to run anything that will provide the constant level of boost that a turbocharger does fairly well precludes using the car's electrical system.
All things aside if someone sells it someone else will buy it. I think I'll put the seller in my favorites and see what happens ;-)
