high rpm's at idle on my 240 sedan....help?

occasionally at a stoplight my rpm's (I'm going on sound and feel, there is no tachometer) seem oddly high- is something going on I don't know about? It didn't happen before a couple weeks ago. any info would be great. thanks

When that happens does it stay high or go back down after a click noise? You can adjust the idle on that car if it's idling high normally.

I haven't heard it click... but sometimes it will drop down normally- I've only really noticed at stoplights and such, when I had just a small period of time, I don't know what would happen if I left running like that. It seems like a real random thing
